Importing a Manuscript
Bring your existing manuscript into Continuum Writer.
Supported Formats
.pdf— PDF files.rtf— Rich text files.txt— Plain text files.md— Markdown files
How to Import
- On the welcome screen, click "New from Import"
- Select your manuscript file
- The import wizard opens and detects your chapter/scene structure
- Review the detected structure and adjust if needed
- Optionally run AI entity extraction to detect characters, locations, and items
- Click "Create Project" to finish
Formatting Tips
For best results, format your manuscript with clear chapter markers:
- Use
# Chapter Titleor## Chapter Titleheadings in Markdown - Or use
[chapter]/[scene]markers in plain text - Separate scenes with
***or---on their own line
If your manuscript doesn't have clear markers, the import wizard uses heuristics to detect structure. You can always adjust the result manually before creating the project.
AI Entity Extraction
During import, you can optionally run AI extraction. This scans your manuscript and creates entries for characters, locations, and items it finds. This requires an AI provider to be configured (see AI Overview).
