Editor

The manuscript editor — where you write, format, and refine your prose.

Opening a Scene

Click any scene in the workspace to open it in the editor. The breadcrumb bar at the top shows your current position (Book → Chapter → Scene) and lets you navigate between scenes.

Formatting

The toolbar provides standard formatting options: Bold, Italic, Underline, and heading levels (H1, H2, H3). Use keyboard shortcuts for faster editing:

  • ⌘B — Bold
  • ⌘I — Italic
  • ⌘U — Underline

Scene Breaks

Insert scene breaks using the toolbar

Find & Replace

Press ⌘F to open find, or ⌘⇧F for find and replace. Works across the current scene.

Focus Mode

Click "Focus" in the toolbar to enter focus mode. This dims everything except the current paragraph, helping you concentrate on the sentence you're writing.

AI Suggestions

Select a passage in the editor and use the Rewrite or Simplify option to send it to the AI. The assistant will produce a clean rewrite, and you can click Apply to Editor to review the edit. Accept or reject the change from the toolbar that appears above the editor. For larger changes like writing or replacing entire scenes, the AI uses proposal cards in the chat instead. See AI Overview for more.

Scene Context Sidebar

The right sidebar in the editor shows context for the current scene: which characters are present, the location, timeline position, any items and notes. Toggle it with the sidebar button in the toolbar.

Keep track of items that need to be resolved, things like clues, keys, and other objects that are important to the story or that need to be consumed.
