Your First Project

Four ways to start working in Continuum Writer.

Blank Project

Click "New Workspace" on the welcome screen. Give your project a name, and you'll start with an empty workspace ready for you to add books, chapters, and scenes.

From a Template

Click "New from Template" to choose from built-in story structures like Three-Act, Hero's Journey, or Trilogy Arc. These give you a pre-built book structure with chapters and scenes you can rename and fill in.

Import a Manuscript

Click "New from Import" to bring in an existing manuscript. Continuum accepts .txt, .pdf, .rtf, .docx, and .md files. The import wizard will:

  1. Detect chapter and scene breaks in your text
  2. Let you review and adjust the detected structure
  3. Optionally run AI extraction to identify characters, locations, and items
  4. Create your project with everything in place

See Importing a Manuscript for detailed formatting tips.

New From AI Chat

Click "New from AI Chat" to start a chat with the AI. You can discuss your story with the AI and it will help you structure it. Great for getting started with a new story or for brainstorming ideas.

Saving Your Project

Use File → Save As to save your project as a .continuum file. This packages everything into a single file you can move, back up, or share. Use File → Save (or ⌘S) to save ongoing changes.
